This week the University of Kentucky steel band came to our school and vibrated the building with their Caribbean beat!
We loved the performance for many reasons. One of which is the fact that we got out of class. Even though math is fun, watching people play steel pans is better. We liked the way they introduced some of the songs before they played. They showed where the instruments were from, and pointed to a large map so that we could get an idea of the location. We also liked learning about the instruments. They played them so that we could hear the timbre, and then explained how they were made. We enjoyed it when they showed us how they could communicate with instruments. They used the West African influence of call-and-response to show different ways of playing.
We thought this band was entertaining and fun, and we hope that you can see it too!
We give this performance 4 paws!
I give it 5 paws
ReplyDeleteI loved this performance! I never knew that "drums" could make all those different sounds!
